Top 5 NFT Games

Blockchain-based video games integrating NFTs and/or cryptocurrency tokens are not a new phenomenon, with some of the oldest games such as CryptoKitties and Axie Infinity being released between 2017 and 2018. These days, however, the GameFi space has taken off significantly and new titles are being developed and released with an astounding frequency. This article will be highlighting the top five NFT games that have seen a large influx in users in the last thirty days from data gathered by DappRadar.

1. Alien Worlds

Genre: Economic simulation/strategy game Blockchain(s): WAX, Binance Smart Chain Game token(s): Trilium ($TLM) Overview: Alien Worlds is a strategy-based futuristic metaverse where players compete against one another to mine the solar system’s precious resource trillium ($TLM rewards tokens), which can be done through buying and using the in-game NFTs (land, tools, minions, weapons, avatars, and missions), battling other players, and completing missions. The NFTs mentioned previously are the main way to mine trilium from six in-game planets, each of which is also a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) with their own elected councilor and treasury. Players who wish to support and/or have governance over a particular planet can stake their $TLM tokens to one and get the ability to vote on community DAO propositions.

2. Bomb Crypto

Genre: Pixelized idle Bomberman-style hero game Blockchain(s): Binance Smart Chain Game token(s): Bomber Coin ($BCOIN) Overview: Bomb Crypto is an idle game inspired by the Bomberman series that’s been seeing a steady increase in users as of recently. Players start by minting a bomber hero NFT from the game’s main site (at a minting price of 10 $BCOIN tokens) or purchasing one from their in-game market and send them out in one of three game modes to start bombing chests and boxes for more $BCOIN tokens. Treasure Hunt Mode and Story Mode have your hero(es) run around on their own and bomb items on the map to collect $BCOIN tokens for you, while Battle Mode has players bet $BCOIN tokens and challenge each other to a match. Each hero has their own stats and an energy meter that runs out after some time spent bombing. To recharge, heroes need to rest and can rest up faster if a separate NFT house is purchased for them, which are currently all minted out and must be purchased from the in-game market using $BCOIN tokens.

3. Splinterlands

Genre: Turn-based collectible trading card strategy/battle game Blockchain(s): Hive with token bridging available to Ethereum, Tron, WAX, and Binance Smart Chain Game token(s): Dark Energy Crystals in-game rewards token ($DEC), Splintershards governance token ($SPS) Overview: Inspired by trading card games like Magic the Gathering and Hearthstone, Splinterlands is a free-to-play collectible trading card strategy/battling game. Players create decks of summoner and monster cards which themselves are NFTs and can be bought or sold through the in-game market. Each have their own unique stats and abilities which must be strategically combined in a strong deck to stand a chance at beating other players in matches. In order to begin earning Dark Energy Crystal rewards tokens ($DEC) for their gameplay, users will need to first purchase a $10 “Summoner’s Spellbook” item.

4. Upland

Genre: Blockchain(s): EOS Game token(s): $UPX Overview: Upland is a unique “play to own” blockchain-based game in that it uses a map of the real world within its virtual metaverse. Often likened to a “blockchain-based Monopoly”, players can buy, sell, trade, and collect virtual NFT land and properties all matched up with their real-world geographic locations. Properties can also be developed with structures, and plans for the creation of in-game businesses providing unique products and services, as well as the ability to bring in outside NFTs to the game world are in the works. The team is focused on building a “real-life” economy with “true ownership” and the game provides numerous opportunities for players to earn $UPX rewards tokens through the accumulation of virtual land, property and more.

5. Axie Infinity

Genre: Creature-collecting turn-based card battle game with additional breeding mechanics Blockchain(s): Ethereum, Ronin (Ethereum sidechain created by developer Sky Mavis) Game token(s): Smooth Love Potion in-game rewards/breeding token ($SLP), Axie Infinity Shards governance token ($AXS) Overview: Axie Infinity is one of the oldest and most well-known blockchain-based NFT GameFi video games out there. Gameplay consists of card-based strategy battles where players build teams of three fantasy creatures called Axies and face off, taking turns attacking each other’s teams to see who can defeat each other first. Players are rewarded for their battles in the game’s primary rewards token, Smooth Love Potion ($SLP), which is also used in the game’s breeding mechanic. Axies themselves are NFTs with their own unique stats, abilities, and looks and can be purchased from the game’s in-game market. They can each be bred using $SLP tokens up to seven times, and their offspring can be kept or sold for an additional source of profit.
